I am all about hacking various mobile devices, but I am not completely sure I would want to go into hacking an expensive consumer device like the iPhone myself. Considering for people like me who would likely use it for making calls and using its existing functionality, hacking the phone would have to produce one heck of a benefit.

Then again, a hack that means the iPhone can be used on other mobile networks on the other hand, that could be worth it. Being able to take an unlocked iPhone with you could very well justify the cost for someone like me. If I can get one that is safely available for any mobile carrier here in the US, it might be enough to drive me in that Apple direction. What do you think, would you purchase an unlocked iPhone?
