Security Sucks

Today, Chris writes:

I recently tried the Invisus security suite for three weeks, and it was a disaster. The software slowed my laptop down to a crawl, and the updates were far from “automatic.” What have you heard about Invisus?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I did some poking around and thanks to some pretty well-done SEO work, most everything I found on Invisus was coming from the company directly. The only thing I could find regarding the update was pointing to firewall issues. So it could either be related to that, or something in the scheduling arena was simply not jiving for you.

Regardless, I suspect that the software is similar to some of the other “security suite” options out there, full of bloat and not designed for anything less than the fastest desktop hardware. As a personal rule, I detest all-in-one suites just for this reason. Assuming you are running with adequate RAM, I see no reason why ZoneAlarm and AVG anti-virus wouldn’t fit the bill for you? But that is just my opinion.

Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the comments may be, drop me a line, and you too can “Just Ask Matt!”

Zone Alarm works, but never fails to cause issues with some software on the times I’ve used it. I’ve found Sygate Personal works without a fuss, and is not much of a drain on resources.

What Do You Think?
