Linux Malware? On The iPod?
There is a real lesson here. Proof of concept or not, even iPods can be infected with malware should malicious person wish it. Now obviously, this does not mean that running Linux on your iPod should be avoided or even that something as benign as this little Trojan is the beginning of something much nastier.
But then I took a moment to read a comment that someone made regarding this whole thing on the previously linked site, basically down playing any harm that could be had. It’s sad, when people need to dismiss what they so obviously do not understand:
Basically, someone came up with a script which echo’s the message “You are infected with Oslo the first iPodLinux Virus” when specifically executed by the user? Lock up your daughters!!
Sure, it was a funny point to be sure. Nevertheless, the point was quite obviously missed with this individual despite their stab at humor.
Speaking for myself, I choose to take the article as a friendly wake-up call. It can be seen as a reminder than nothing in the world of tech is invincible, even the exulted iPod or my beloved Linux.
