Windows Vista - Give It Some Time?

Windows Vista has been compared to a cake that has not risen all the way yet. A great beginning for Windows improvement, but it still has a few things that need to be worked out before it’s ready to be “eaten.”
I believe this is why we still see many consumers who would rather buy their next PC with XP SP2 installed for the time being. They know what to expect, all of their hardware and games work well with it, and considering the expense of purchasing the level of PC needed to run Vista Home Premium, I suspect there will be a number of users who have shown little interest in the upgrade.
Now at this stage in the game, I have concerns over potential losses for retailers trying to offer PCs with Vista Home Basic installed. I have also spoken with a number of local PC repair companies here locally that are, not surprisingly, still insisting on offering XP SP2 along with the Vista option. The local vendors make it clear that Vista is more secure, but for gaming needs on the NVIDIA front and other select needs, XP is still being offered.
I guess it’s just going to take some more waiting for individuals who wish to use Windows. To be fair, I believe much of this is forgivable as any Windows migration from an old version to a new version can be relatively painful. But I can’t help but feel reminiscent of Windows XP in some ways. Back when Best Buy was doing the pre-release, I remember the numerous headaches that my family had getting things to work as desired at that point. A year later however, things were grooving right along. I guess we just need to remain patient with this one?

I’ve still got W98se and I’ve been thinking of upgrading to Xp for about a year. Then I thought I would wait until Vista came out because I figured the prices of Xp Oem disks would drop off considerably after Vista’s launch (what computer company would be still be offering Xp machines after that?) and I could then get Xp for like $25. Well, I’ve noticed the prices for Xp Oem disks haven’t changed one bit since Vista came out, so I figure the resellers must still have the same amount of demand for Xp or else they’d be competing with each other to get rid of this “old” version of Windows.

I have been advising everyone to avoid Vista- several reasons. One the much steeper hardware requirements (especially for Aero) for it to function quick and smooth. Two, the cost is ridiculous even if you have the hardware - it’s more like XP SP3 or whatever.Three, MS got into bed big time with RIAA, MPAA, and whomever with this DRM crap, which ends up making media enjoyment a hassle to a larger degree.I have watched YouTube vids of Mandriva 2007 and other distros, with their 3GL graphics, 3D effects, etc and was surprised by some reviewers saying it doesn’t significantly make a difference to system load/performance - whereas Vista’s requirements for Aero are twice that of it without Aero. I know long time Windows (advanced level) users who are saying that XP is the last windows they will use - and they are trying Mandriva or Fedora Core 6 (and have acquired help books etc to facilitate that).

very true. I blogged something related at my blog too…
MS saying it will soon take XP out of market and dell announcing that it would continue to supply XP loaded systems. XP isnt going to die down that easily.
