Ubuntu - Hartley Style!

  • No Related Post

Man, I can hardly wait until tomorrow! As promised last month, I will be posting the first in a series of articles that will quite literally get you running Ubuntu or one of its derivatives like a pro. Stand back and be amazed as I introduce an Ubuntu-based distro that not only has the following installed by default: better wifi support than anyone else, the ability to beat down any .cab or .exe that is keeping you from using Ndiswrapper to extract hidden Windows Wi-Fi drivers, Flash 9 beta 2, every codec you would possibly need, and a real network manager (lacking by default in traditional Ubuntu), but does so with one simple installation.

UbuntuThen in an effort to nuke one of the biggest headaches when dealing with USB Headsets in Linux, I am going to share a home grown recipe that will allow you to take back control over multiple sound cards in Ubuntu Dapper Drake. Yup, remember those times when you were trying to toggle between that USB Headset and your on-board sound card, only to discover that nothing in your sound settings ever sticks? You head off to the forums, but all they tell you to do is hack your .asoundrc file!

Well guess what kids, I am going to show you how to create your own “clickable” switch to toggle “sudo asoundconf set-default-card” anytime you want - no rebooting required. It’s easy and it is coming up tomorrow.

Later on, I will show you where you can find any hardware imaginable including Wi-Fi cards, modems, all-in-one printers, Web cams, and a whole lot more - working out of the box, no excuses, no compiling, no BS.

Parental controls in Linux? With true GUI access? You had better believe it and I will be showing you how to install it in just a couple of very simple steps. And no, you do not need to change your Ubuntu distro “type” in order to do it, either.

Stay tuned!
