Coding is the term used to describe the process of sending data in digital bits - 1s (ones - with a pulse, positive voltage or signal) and 0s (zeros - no signal or pause). The term originates from Morse Code and its dots (short duration signals) and dashes (longer duration signals).
Different coding techniques are used for different types of data transmission systems. The speed of the transitions from 0-to-1-to-0, or transmission, is called the clock speed.
