Lack Of Security With Open Source

As much as I hate to admit it, Alan Cox may just be right on the money. Even though it pains me to say this, it is totally true that a number of popular Open Source applications are, in fact, quite insecure.
But rather than side with Closed Source companies in saying “see, we told you so,” I instead would say that it’s simply a matter of understanding that any sort of software has the potential for security flaws. Whether or not it’s Open or Closed Source really makes little difference in my opinion. If security concerns are not being met, then it is inevitable that problems will arise.
Yes, I would definitely agree with Cox’s statement in saying that making claims on being more secure is a dangerous dance for any project. However in the end I would also point out that certain Closed Source companies have made similar clams and have also had those same claims of security blow up in their faces. Hey, just thought I ought to point that out.
