OS X – Wow, It's Different Than I Remember It To Be
So today, I had the opportunity to spend some time with the Mac OS known as OS X. Considering that I have done this before, I should have been more patient with a few things, but in the end, I came to a very serious conclusion. I like the Mac for its abilities with photos and video, but sometimes OS X is really annoying.
Perhaps it’s because I am used to a certain level of configuration and control that I did just not feel coming from the OS today, it’s really hard to say for sure. In the end, I learned something from my 5 hour stint of uninterrupted Mac usage – my next notebook will be a PC running Linux. My next desktop will be a PC running Linux and I will buy a souped up Mac mini for the sole purpose of processing video. A Mini with an external FireWire drive and a couple of gigs of RAM should be plenty to keep any frames from being dropped.
So will I ever “switch” completely onto something else? In a way, I have. For the past three weeks solid, I have doing all of my daily tasks on my old Averatec notebook running Ubuntu. I have never been happier and to be honest, hope to able to use this weekend to transfer my 6,000+ email messages out of Outlook for good from within Windows.
Another reality check that I had was that I work with companies that have me reviewing Windows applications as part of my job. So it’s very likely that the PC will need to be dual boot for now, until I get a separate box altogether that is.
Well, I am trying to get two days worth of work done in one, so I had better go. I am off to write the report for tomorrow, today!
