A Microsoft Crackdown - Can We Really Blame Them?

Lately, it seems like Microsoft has been busy pursuing the legal scene. Honestly, if it has been wronged in some way or software has been pirated or stolen, then I completely agree with its latest actions. Seriously, you have to protect your work, right?
But I have to ask, what about Windows 2000 Pro? Unlike Windows 98, I would not go so far as to say that it’s totally outdated per se. Instead, I would say that it is ripe for the pirating and yet, it’s not at all being sought after with the same zest as the newer OS, Windows XP.
I suspect this really comes down to where the money is. Let’s be honest, Win XP is likely to be a hotter product on the black market than its older Win 2k counterpart, no? In the end, I guess Microsoft has opted to cut its losses and pursue the best revenue generator that it can.
In the end, I suspect the same fate that Win 2k has seen will soon become the norm with XP. Once Vista is released, I just don’t think that it’ll have as much concern over who is pirating the soon-to-be outdated OS. Food for thought perhaps? What do you think?
