Long Distance Tech Support

Today my ex-wife emails me asking if I might know why in the world the online antivirus she had decided to use was not working as it should. I replied back with the question as to whether or not she had been using a properly installed and up to date program such AVG or Mcafee . As it turns out, she had a copy of AVG running and set to self-maintain, however she had grown concerned over the possibly of something going wrong with it.
Folks, if this does not illustrate the obvious need to use their software properly, then I don’t know what does. Another option might be for people in her position to install a program such as GoToMyPC. When bundled along with a “how-to” DVD for help with the set-up, this does provide you a way to offer support over long distances. In many respects, this allows a PC tech to “take a holiday”, yet remain connected to their clients should terrible things begin to happen.
The only really scary challenge that I can think of would be making sure that the person you were interested in helping was not apt to loosing items such as DVDs. Short of that, it’s a great way to provide long distance support!
