By George, I Think They Got It!

With all of the concern that myself and others have had over the pre-release of Vista these days, it was rather nice to discover some good news for a change. It seems that even with all of its challenges, Vista will in fact be an outstanding operating system once it finally rolls out the door. In the meantime, however…

Microsoft has had to deal with what InfoWorld coined as “Advil moments.” The issues that the dev team has had to overcome include: installation issues, GUI, and, of course, the audio. Currently in RC1 (release candidate one), most of these issues have long since been resolved; so I’ve been told.

In the end, I think that Vista has some potential, however I still believe it has yet to sell itself to anyone outside of enthusiasts and gamers.

Think that I am nuts? Perhaps you have another take on this. Email me above and tell me all about it.

No not, by George: Vista will be a train wreck before it leaves the station. It will only appeal to those who do nothing but play games (and most of what they play will not install or run in Vista), and the ones who just must have the newest of the new so they can talk about it. Truth is, most of these people need Vista because they do not run any anti-virus or let their 30-day-trial expire without a care, do not install or use anti-spyware, and in general know nothing except that they have a computer with Windows Vista on it. So they have bragging rights.

Others will not be able to install anti-spyware like Spy Sweeper, or ewido, and Ad-Aware SE Personal won’t scan unless you do it in the Administrator mode. You cannot install or use your favorite CD/DVD burning software such as Nero, Roxio, and others, because Microsoft says you HAVE to use its software. Bottom line: give beginners the Vista. At least with XP Pro I still have my freedom of choice to run what I want when I want, and WILL not give up my freedom of choice to a dictator like Microsoft.

PS: I may beta test Vista, but you will not see me running a full version of it. When EOL comes around for XP Pro, I will switch to Linux. Unless MS releases its hold on my freedom of choice being denied, which is granted to me by our Constitution, it is violating the Constitution of the United States.
