Here is a brief overview of RIP [Routing Information Protocol]:
RIP is a distance vector protocol - updates other routers periodically (continuously) - generally every 30 seconds
Metric - routing value - is hop (router) count - how many hops to get its - default is 1 hop or “hop(e) that is gets there” RIP is limited to 15 hops
RIP is an interior gateway protocol - in same AS [Autonomous System] (carriers or service providers)
(BGP [Border Gateway Protocol is the routing protocol used between AS])
