RF Splitter Or Tap

The animated TECHTip Tutorial is available here.

An RF [Radio Frequency] splitter or tap (a passive, non-electrically powered device) is often used (though not necessarily recommended) when there is a special coverage area problem and it’s not practical to install another cable to the AP [Access Point] transmitter. Insertion loss is often a problem with a splitter and they should not be greater than 1 dB and have a 1.5 or less VSWR [Voltage Standing Wave Ratio].

Isolation Loss between the output devices (load) should also be checked and should be greater than 20 dB. That is, output devices should not insert voltage which may interfere with other output devices.
