Free Space Path Loss or Path Loss refers to the loss of signal power as a result of signal dispersion over distance. As the signal moves through space, the power decreases proportional to the wavelength but inversely proportional the distance.
Using the 6 dB rule means that for every 6 dB increase doubles performance and a 6 dB reduction reduces performance by 100 (50%).
