Apple MacBook? Perhaps Not.

Well, it looks like I will going with an IBM (Lenovo) ThinkPad after all. I gave serious consideration to getting myself an Apple MacBook Pro, unfortunately the lack of applications that I want has me rethinking my stance on the matter.
Why not just install Windows? Because of Apple’s unresponsiveness to the discoloring problem with the standard MacBook. Yes, it’s annoying. And no, I have not seen Apple take care of this short of asking you to ship it back for replacement so I can do this all over again. Actually, this does not appeal to me.
The issue with the MacBook discoloration can easily be solved by simply getting a MacBook Pro, right? Yes, but it leaves me wondering what might go wrong if Apple is not willing or able to get a handle on something as basic as discoloration.
What do you think? Do you feel that I am overreacting? Great, then please feel free to prove me wrong. It may not sound like a tall order. However, telling me to simply pay extra for black or go with the Pro model is really not much of a solution in my opinion.

I think you are overreacting. I am a PC guy, 5 of them, 3 home-builts.After the LED screens,Leopard, and Merom hits the Macbook, I’m in.
I’m tired of being a guinea pig for MS, I’m tired of 23% of my hard drive wasted to “fixes”. Vista is BS. I want something that just works, and I’m willing to learn a new OS to do it. I’m 59, I’m switching! You should too.
BTW the discoloration has been taken care of. I regularly log into macrumors.com, and I subscribe to all the Mac Magazine’s. I’t the way I learned Windows in 94, and the way I’ll learn MAC.
Say hello to my old Tech TV friend, Chris

i have an xps running windows ultimate vista. I have been p*ssed at Apple too, but I will say one thing. The Mac OS is so far superior there is no contest. If you want a great OS you need to wait for the MAC version to come out first.. It is then copied. Hence, VISTA. If I hadn’t wasted 299 CAN on it I would reinstall XP as it is not so different and had a better compatibility mode. The lesson here is that no matter how much money you have and how many resources, it does not guarantee you the best OS. VISTA is a joke, and if you ever use a computer for graphics or video related projects, the PC and its crappy OS will never catch up. Now that the hardware is the same, the PC’s reason for being is nullified unless you want a cheapo internet computer to surf the web and chat on Yahoo. Believe me when I tell you, if they release a Windows PC version of the MAc OS for PC’s, Windows will die the death it deserves for following and not leading - ever. The only Windows WoW! I have ever seen is how they thought they could release a major OS upgrade with no new File System. The only thing I can recommend is that if you do buy a new MAC but the extended warranty and you should be fine.

I agree with David Becker above.
It must be your particular body chemistry and hygiene because I know too many people with MacBooks, including me, and dont have any issues with discoloration — and I only clean the oil and dirt off my body in a shower on average once a week. There is a testimony for you.
p.s. Vista sux…. its the new Windows ME.

Chip: Good points, however the valid point on chemistry seems to be a fair number of users. And spot-on about “Vista sux…. its the new Windows ME”. ;)
