The IP address resource allows you to make an IP address fault-tolerant. The IP Address resource is included in a group to allow all other resources within the group to be accessible by the IP address defined in the IP Address resource.
When creating an IP Address resource, you will be prompted to configure the following parameters:
- IP Address - The IP address for the resource. Clients can use this IP address to access resources.
- Subnet Mask - The subnet mask that corresponds to the IP address.
- Network - Select the network card that the IP address is assigned to.
- Enable NetBIOS for this Address - Specifies whether to enable to disable NetBIOS.
The Network Name resource type provides an alternate computer name for an entity that exists on a network. The Network Name resource is very simple to create. You would add this resource type to a group to allow clients to access resources within the group by a network name. For example, if you create a Network Name resource named Server and add it to Group 1, clients can access resources within Group 1 by this name. When you create a Network Name resource, the New Resource wizard will prompt you to specify a name.
The Physical Disk resource type is used to manage disks that are on a cluster storage device. The Physical Disk resource allows you to add a physical disk to a group that will be used by the group’s other resources. Other resources such as DHCP and Print Spooler are dependent upon the Physical Disk resource. When you create a Physical Disk resource, the New Resource wizard will prompt you to select the drive letter for the physical disk. This will be the drive letter used by other resources within the same group.
