It’s Like A Flock Of Browsers Are Invading!

I am really proud of myself. I managed to fight the urge to use the obvious title description that would have gone with something like; “What the…”.

Moving on.
What is the deal with this Flock web browser and just as importantly, why should we care? How does Flock meet with my needs in comparison to Firefox? Based on what I have seen, I believe a lot of this need to reinvent the web browser world yet again comes from the desire to see a more accessible stance with regard to services like Flickr, YouiTube and now - Photobucket.

While most Firefox users would likely argue that Flock’s efforts are unnecessary, I believe that a number of less techie types will find Flock to be a welcome change from the everyday options out there for uploading pictures. Much like Democracy player is to the podcast subscription, I see Flock offering much of the same to the web surfing crowd looking to make photo uploading simpler.

Now for the big question: can Flock achieve a decent marketshare in an already competitive browser market? I see this as one of their biggest challenges. Firefox has resources that Flock does not, and I see this as one of the issues in getting the word out.

Can Flock make a name for themselves? Just as importantly, can they figure out a viable business model before the funding stops? Open source perhaps, but there are still fixed expenses that need to be met to make this happen. At any rate, I totally wish them lots of luck and admire their efforts.
