Split Horizon Ring Network

The animated TECHTip Tutorial is available here.

Integrated multiprotocol routing adds features (separate route lists/tables and procedures) for different routing protocols. For example, EIGRP [Enhanced Gateway Routing Protocol] and interior or internal routing protocol can support routing tables for TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and others. That is, a separate routing list is created for each protocol but using only one routing protocol.

Multiprotocol routing means, among other things, the ability to route (transmit/send) different protocols at the same time. For example, OSPF [Open Shortest Path First] can be used to route IPX and RIP to route TCP/IP.

Split Horizon - Ring Network

Traffic is sent by router to many places at once or router advertises (broadcasts) to networks simultaneously.

Note: Spanning Tree is used by LAN switches to flood traffic across the LAN. That is, split horizon is used by routers and spanning tree is used by LANs.
