I’m All Ears, Folks

You know, there are just some days you have to sit back and smile. I have put a stop to my repair business sometime ago. And yet, I am still receiving those crazy service calls. In a compromise with myself, I decided to take three of them to heart. Yup, I added them to my PIM and have already provided service for one of them today.

For the most part, it was reminiscent of what I used to deal with: Spyware infestation, strange dialers, etc. But alas, another unrelated issue quickly presented itself to me. After some fast investigating, I noticed that my client was using some seriously overloaded outlets.

See, most people will just keep plugging stuff into them without a concern in the world. The problem with this thinking is that it can in prove to be a danger if you’re not careful. Besides the obvious fire hazard, you might also be underpowering a number of your hardware based components - this can prove expensive.

Now we could all stand back and point out the dangers of such electrical mistakes until the cows come home. Unfortunately, this provides no usable solution with regard to dealing with impending outlet overload.

Do you have some thoughts? Seriously, short of a re-wiring job done by an electrician, I am open to your ideas on how to bypass “computer desk overload”. That’s right, I am all ears at this point. We are talking about 3-5 existing surge protectors. Yeah, it’s pretty overlapped.
