E-Mail:

It’s Ugly, But It Sure Sounds Great!

I never thought this would happen. Nope, not in a million years. But darn in anyway if I don’t find myself using instant messenger again. Man, I have not used an IM in roughly a year or so. Then it happened…

Since my brother uses a cell phone almost exclusively anymore, I have found myself using Google Talk more and more lately just to keep in touch with him. As a rule, I really dislike instant messengers and all that they represent. They are a constant distraction and more often than not you find yourself involved in conversations that go no place. I suppose that a fair part of this has to do with the fact that I allowed my buddy list to get way out of control way back when. I mean, with something like 40 names floating around on my old messenger, I had to nip that problem in the bud and fast.

You know something, it’s funny. The Google client itself sucks - seriously! No voicemail, nothing for options and it is pretty boring otherwise. But wow, the voice quality is actually better than the reception on many cell phones! It sure blows Skype, Yahoo and MSN out of the water with regard to voice quality. Thus far, I am impressed. And yes, it is in “Beta”.

Doing things right this time around-
Under no circumstances will I be sending out chat invites left and right. My time is limited and I do intend to using Google Talk a lot like a phone. Being I don’t spend an enormous amount of time on the phone when I am sitting at the PC, I see little reason to do so with this IM client either.
