Laptop Ebola?

  • No Related Post

It’s Friday as I write this. Although I’m still waiting to receive my latest “patients,” this week has been funny in the sense that three different people have called with non-bootable, or highly unstable, laptops. From preliminary conversations, I’ve found out that the laptops are not even that old, so I’m thinking we have either malware at work, or Windows OS corruption, or both. It’s just amusing to me how they all crept out of the woodwork at roughly the same time.

So guess what I’ll be doing this weekend? Yes, sports fans, I’ll be rebuilding these puppies. Between laptops and desktops, I like rebuilding laptops the most (with the exception of that iBook I recently worked on) because they are self contained, and I can work on them in my living room in front of my Plasma. There’s not a huge rush on the work, as the clients aren’t completely reliant on these laptops, so I can pace myself on the rebuilds.

On the subject of laptops, I found this blog entry on ePrarie.com to be hysterical, and very telling of the plight of the typical PC consumer. Paul Trout touches upon many of the frustrations that actually form the basis of my business’ niche. Chances are, if you are reading this, you are a technologist of some sort, and you can rise above the obstacles that are thrown the average PC consumer… but for most, this is a good illustration of how things are.
