As the famous saying goes - first impressions are everything. With this in mind, you are definitely going to be making several first impressions if you are a new employee in the company. To help you make the best first impression, here are a few pointers that you can use.
- Don’t be late. In fact, be a few minutes early if you can. If you are going to be late, give someone at the office a courtesy call to let them know.
- Dress appropriately. A business casual dress code does not mean blue jeans and t-shirts. It means you still need to look like a professional.
- Do not overextend your breaks. When taking your coffee or lunch break, do not take more time than the company allocates. If you do, others around you will start to take notice.
- Ask for assistance. If you do not understand something, it is best to say so right away. Take a proactive approach and ask for assistance right away. Also be sure to pay attention so you only need to ask once.
- Follow through. If you say that you are going to do something, make sure you do it. Not following through with your actions is a sure way to develop a negative reputation.
- Display a positive attitude. Always be polite and courteous to the people around you and to those you are speaking with on the telephone (regardless of how early in the morning it is).
