But I Digress

Alright, unless you have been living under a rock, by now you have heard about the viral marketing campaign for this ‘thing’ called On10.net. After doing some digging, I think I have a pretty good idea as to the what and even the who. Answering the why may take a little longer I’m afraid.

Laura Foy’s site indicates that this has been coming for sometime now. And another point interest is that Microsoft ‘appears’ to have some involvement in this On10.net deal as well. How does this translate? Think about it: Foy, Xbox 360, ex-gaming show hostess. Can you see where this is likely headed? I believe this could be another entrance into the IPTV market, but this time we could see MS taking a stab at it within their gaming market.

Now here is the other possibility. While I’d consider this unlikely as the Xbox related gaming show would make more sense for corporate sponsorship, Foy may be working on what is to be a channel of sorts. An IPTV channel perhaps? Whatever the venture, I am sure that Laura Foy and possible co-host Tina Wood, will have great success with it.

Boy, sure seems like Comcast is letting their G4 folks go by the truckload, doesn’t it? G4’s other ex-Laura remains busy with a podcast of her own that Louise Palanker, myself and Swisher have put together a year ago respectively. These ladies are top notch in my book and have been a blast to work with.

But I digress…
It seems like folks are jumping off of the TV networks faster than Mexican jumping beans on a hotplate! Don’t get me wrong, there will always be a need and a desire for fifty zillion channels to watch during our free time. And yet one cannot help but wonder if we are witnessing the birth of a new kind of pass time?

In the car, we might tune into the radio for talk or music. While sitting on the couch, we might decide to catch an episode of our favorite TV drama or perhaps watch a DVD. And finally we have the PC. Once used for both productivity and gaming, now is becoming an extension to our TV sets. Offering content that we might not watch otherwise, the PC video coming out these days offers a fun escape. Content offered gives all of us just the right flavor to make it time well spent as enabling us to avoid getting busy on that ‘Johnson Report’ for ‘Mr. So-n-So’. Hey, procrastination transcends all mediums.
