Intel Brings More Affordable Data Protection To Small Businesses & Homes
From email and word processing to file retention and disaster recovery planning, a growing mountain of digital information has small businesses and consumers seeking an affordable means to protect their data from loss. Addressing this demand, computer resellers today began offering a new storage platform from Intel Corporation designed with the unique needs of small businesses and consumers in mind.
“The Intel Entry Storage System SS4000E is designed to make storage easier for small businesses and give them peace of mind that their data is protected,” said Jeff Hoogenboom, vice president, Intel Sales and Marketing Group and general manager, Reseller Channel Operation. “Storage is one of the fastest-growing segments within IT, and with the SS4000E we can offer our resellers a world-class platform on which they can build the best storage solutions for their customers.”
For small businesses, the Intel Entry Storage System SS4000E provides an easy-to-use and affordable way to store up to two terabytes of data. Based on standard Network Attached Storage (NAS) technology, the storage platform also helps centralize large or vital data files and grants access from multiple users simultaneously for increased productivity.
In addition, sophisticated consumers are using digital home technologies to share entertainment, download photo libraries, digital music, and videos and games – all of which can rapidly fill up standard hard drives. This is an opportunity for resellers to expand their services and provide families with the ability to centrally store and protect their vital digital information.
Based on the Intel XScale 80219 processor, Intel’s new storage platform fits on a bookshelf and connects through a Gigabit Ethernet network and supports up to four Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disks. Using a standard interface, the platform provides security tools to limit access to shared folders and advanced data protection through support for RAID Levels 0, 1, 5 and 10. The client backup and recovery application is a powerful, centralized function providing entire system backup and recovery.
“We are convinced that the Intel Storage System SS4000E represents a major opportunity for existing server customers to make a move into the growing storage market segment with a product that has leading price performance figures for entry level applications, file sharing and backup restore,” said Les Billing, managing director of Microtronica, a leading reseller of Intel platforms.
The Intel Entry Storage System SS4000E is available today from participating Intel Channel members for a suggested price range of $700 to $2000 each. More information is available here.
