Security threats of the 21st century

As I read through the latest tech news, I find myself pondering the likelihood of computer viruses being something that will become passe as time marches on.

For Windows users, I see some potential hope with Vista as they appear to making headway in the security dept there. Linux and Mac users on the other hand, have not really had to be concerned about this issue. While neither OS is immune if an some creep decides to create something nasty to attack it, I do believe the damage caused would mainly be distributive rather than havoc creating thanks to the nature of the kernel(s) being used.

But hey. Maybe tomorrow’s threats will not be so much related to viruses or worms. Perhaps it will be more along the lines of phishing schemes and other methods of stealing somebody’s identity?

Speaking from my own experience with recent repairs, I’d say that the ID theft and spyware related headaches are going to be among the future challenges that we will be facing. So, what do you think? Do you believe that Windows will be able to get a better handle on virus threats in the future? Perhaps you feel that there are some new threats that have simply not reared their ugly heads yet? Whatever your thoughts, I’d love to hear them. Hit me back with the comment link above and tell me what’s on your mind.
