If you are sick of having to go through the process of updating your Windows install to Service pack 2 each and every time, then you need to look at the following closely. A process called slipstreaming can truly make your life a whole lot easier if you know what your are doing. To make this happen however, the process is beyond most people as it requires a lengthy tutorial and borders being a real pain in the butt. Today, this the process has been made a whole lot easier thanks to a piece of software known as Autostreamer.
Having the correct tools is pretty basic, you just need to make sure you have a copy of Windows XP and the Service pack itself. Short of that, you just need to follow the prompts and allow the software to do the ‘heavy lifting’ for you. Once the provided wizard is done, you should find that you are ready to rock and roll with a CD that has Windows bundled with SP2 and it only took you a few minutes.
“So, is this for XP only?” Not at all. You can use this with Windows 2K, XP Home and Pro as well as with Windows 2003 products. If you have a version of Windows falling into one of those groups and the appropriate SP to go with it, then Autostreamer can most certainly make life easier for you.

Re: Crippling Problems…
I can’t get the program to work.
To elaborate, when I try to run Autostreamer I want to use my original Windows CD (the Reinstallation CD for XP Professional from DELL) along with my SP1 and SP2 CD’s received from Microsoft.
When I enter the former into my CD drive, it of course launches the installation screen, not anticipating the plans to build an Autostream ISO. Cancelling the setup window, I then insert the Reinstallation CD and Autostreamer inserts the proper drive letter for the drive, BUT… the X displayed at the front of the line DOES NOT CHANGE to a green check mark, the OS and Build lines remain UNKNOWN but the Size indicates 541MB! The NEXT choice button is GRAYED out.
I’ve copied the XPSP2.exe file to the Desktop but when I click the magnifying glass to the right of the SP file line, I am directed to “Insert a Disk into Drive F, my second CD drive. If I provide a path to the file in the computer, the NEXT choice button remains GRAYED out.
If I then insert the SP2 CD into the second CD drive, clicking the Service Pack file line magnifying glass brings up a Windows Explorer window with the correct CD drive but does not fill the drive letter into the the window. If I select the XPSP2.exe file, it does fill in the window with the path BUT… then the Build notation changes from Unknown to “Specify CD drive first!”, the red X remains to the left of the Service Pack File: line, and the NEXT choice button remains GRAYED OUT!!!
I’ve tried the procedure with the Microsoft supplied SP2 CD, with the XPSP2 executable on the hard drive, and with the downloaded executable both on the HD and copied onto a CD. NEXT remains GRAYED OUT and the RED X’s remain by the two input file lines on the Autostreamer screen.
Am I alone on this or do I not have the proper procedure???
Thanks, Chuck

Chuck I do not know if Dell shipped you a full version of Windows or just a recovery CD. In order to get the former you would of had to pay more for it at time of purchase. I copied the XPSP2.exe to a directory on my hard drive and was able to navigate to it. However I was using a MS XP Home CD and not one from Dell. Have you tried putting the XP cd from Dell into the other CD on your computer and see if Autostream sees it there?
