Is new technology truly a boon to our lifestyles? Or is it instead, a problem waiting to happen? For a number of weeks now, I have noticed that depending on the generation that you belong to, chances are that you have strong opinions one way or the other regarding how technology affects each us.
Speaking for myself, I think that if used responsibly, technology can be of real benefit to mankind. But what about those who become addicted, nay, drunk on what computers and other gadgets have to offer us? Could there truly be people out there in the world that become so engrossed with cutting edge stuff that they miss out on common day to day activities? I believe that this does happen and to be honest, I’ve seen it happening far to often for my taste. One of the most common examples of this sort of thing that I’ve seen is with those who get hooked on PC gaming.
Young men from all over the world become hooked on this passtime and in many cases, it can cost them their job, family and in some cases, their ability to recover from this problem at all. Up till now, It has been my experience that people that meet this habit head on, already exhibit additive tendencies anyway. So gaming and computing in general is really just a way to further explore a trait that they already possess.
So what do you folks think? Is this a problem that mainly effects boys and men? Perhaps girls and women are also at risk here, even if society seems to be missing it? I’d be interested in hearing your own experiences and even exploring some or your own concerns when it comes to addiction and technology. Since this is an area that I do not feel is being explored enough these days, I will definitely be anxiously awaiting each of your responses on the matter.
