Client computers do not use the Windows Indexing Service when the computers search for a network-shared file on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.
Note: The client computers are running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
This issue occurs because the Windows Indexing Service cannot be used if the index is not 100 percent up-to-date.
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
