Geeks In Spaaaaace!

OK, so it looks like Google will likely be a major part of our offline lives whether we like it or not. Fair enough, I suppose that I can learn to live with this. See, I am saying this on the heels of the discovery that Google plans on assisting NASA in the near future. NASA people! In a way, this is sort of cool. But I wonder what some areas might be that Google could be of some real assistance in?

Perhaps Google could help to index space shuttle parts as they fall off during take off or during re-entry (OK, I am going to be flamed for that one)? Maybe they could even be called on to perform searches to help find missing lunches lost from the lunch room during some strange inside joke being played out by NASA employees? One thing is for sure though, NASA has made itself available to work with some of the most talented people in the private sector. As much as I may rip on Google sometimes, the people there are amazing and still maintain my admiration for what they have accomplished.

Like NASA has done in the world of space exploration, Google has pioneered the world of the Internet and technology. As Google is presented with opportunities to implement distributed computing into the real world for NASA’s needs, I think that we will see Google making some outstanding contributions to the world’s most famous space agency.

I can see it now when you google something for lunch it will launch a shuttle.

Kind of reminds me of the “Far out Space nuts” TV show, where the fleet service technicians go down the check list:

Breakfast,
Check!

Lunch,
Click

I said Lunch, not launch!!!

What Do You Think?
