Mac-Out My Windows Software!

I am curious. Could the biggest hurdle that prevents people from going Mac only be the lack of Windows software availability? Sometimes I wonder if, instead, it could be the fact that we can ‘roll our own’ PCs. However, when it comes down to the Mac, our customizing options are more limited. To be fair, a Mac would not really be a Mac if we could totally swap everything out, only to start over, right? So let’s say that we could run all of that Windows software we enjoy on a daily basis, but do so in an OS X environment? Sound tempting? It might be a great plan if we did not have to emulate Windows in order to do so.

You know what? This whole thing has me spinning in circles. I want to hear from you folks. How could this be tackled, save more emulation ideas? Is the answer for Mac users to just keep on using existing options and forget Windows software altogether? Perhaps, instead, you envision a day when platform-independent software will reign supreme? I am interested in your thoughts on the matter.

Speaking for myself, I like to believe that there will be a point in the near future when both Open Source and closed source software will break down the boundaries of those darned platform restrictions. Then again, some might argue that I have been huffing paint fumes after my latest case mod again…

Never mind that; what do you think?

What Do You Think?
