Too Much Detail!

I was watching Call for Help (revisited) today and boy, was I in for a shock. Not only did they have Steve Gibson on the show, but he was going to share something that I have mixed feelings about disclosing to the masses. Now, I am not going to give out the exact how-to like […]

Grandkids Are Like That

Today’s column is different from others in this series for a couple of reasons. First, I’m submitting it for posting several days late. Second, I am deviating from the normal exploration of decision theory and probability to discuss why it is late, and that discussion will indirectly wrap around into the proper topic […]

Stormy Thoughts

While hurricanes are certainly nothing new for those in the south and southeast, discovering the amount of devastation that can be caused by a major storm is never something that sets well with anyone. In the interest of good taste, I have opted to hold off on my articles that I had ready for today. […]

Disasters And Technology

Much like we saw during the power outages on the east coast back in 2003, many people are turning to different technologies not only to find out what is going on with the hurricane aftermath, but also to try and get in touch with missing loved ones. Suite And Very Sour

Over many years in the IT field, I’ve come to know and use a variety of security tools for my own PCs. Like you, I’m pretty picky, and don’t mind a product that requires a little more “elbow grease” if it does the job well. For reasons I won’t get into here, I use products […]

HTML Code Rendered Instantly Before Your Eyes

HTML e-mail that doesn’t properly render in the e-mail reader is the bane of my existence. I get it not only from a few regular sources, but nearly universally from people using MSN accounts.
The problem is most often that the sender has not properly embedded in their outgoing e-mail the “Content-Type: text/plain” or […]

Robots-R-Us

What is with Japan’s crazy desire to make robots a continuing part of their lives? It seems like that every time I turn around, it’s ‘robot this’ and ‘robot that!’ I have to tell ya, I am just not too sure about the idea of robots having too much responsibility in our society just yet.

I Love It When Customers Have Their “Stuff” Together

I’ve been talking a lot about my customers lately… the good, the bad, and the ugly. In this post, I’ll talk about one of my good customers. I just rebuilt and upgraded his iMac G4 today.

Replication servers also reduce the internal LAN traffic by providing […]

Common Sense Marketing With A Bluetooth Twist!

Skype-based phone calls over Bluetooth. A very cool idea to be sure, but can we seriously expect the average business user to fully grasp Bluetooth technology with Skype so easily? Bluecasting has been defending its Bluetooth Bluecasting practices, which I, and many of you, believe is nothing but tarted up bluespamming, or bluejacking.
Most recently, here, Bluecasting showed up to defend its actions, saying that “by making your handset discoverable you are permissioning ANYONE to send you something” - in other words, the “she asked for […]
