Exchange 2003 Reveals Secret Contacts

Ever copied your boss in on something just to prove a point? Ever had he or she blind to the recipient so the recipient didn’t know you were proving said point? Ever been blind copied yourself? The world of corporate e-mail is a twisted existence filled with all the intrigues of a Medici-fueled Florence. And like medieval spies, you pay good money to make sure that your little intrigues and the intrigues of those you support are kept on the down low. So what would you think if one of the recipients of the e-mail then forwarded it off with your carefully crafted list of BCC contacts revealed to the world? You probably wouldn’t want to give Exchange a big hug, would you?
Prepare to reserve Exchange 2003’s intimacy quota for the year. Microsoft has confessed that non-Outlook Exchange MAPI clients such as Eudora can reveal all your BCC recipients. It’s probably not worth pondering the amount of people who discovered this problem the awkward way. Thankfully a hotfix has been released, but if you haven’t service packed Exchange 2003, then you can’t have it. Alas, the update requires Exchange 2003 Enterprise and Standard to be the most recent revision.
Hotfix here.
