It’s funny that, as soon as we get into a career with computers, we are
automatically deemed nerds. Just because we love computers though does not
always make us nerds. A nerd by definition is as follows:

Nerd
noun, informal, a person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious.

The reason why we often get called nerds is because people just don’t
understand what we do. They imagine us sitting in front of our computers all
day drinking coffee, wearing pocket protectors, and, in the evening, sitting by
ourselves watching Star Trek. In most cases, though, we are just like everyone
else. Yes, I said it: NORMAL. Sure, we love technology, but in today’s world,
if you don’t, you will never get anywhere in life. Here are some falsehoods
about nerds:

1. We wear pocket protectors and thick glasses.

2. We all watch Star Trek every night.
3. We drive nerdish cars like Gremlins.
4. We all live alone.
5. Our computers are the closest thing we have ever had to a relationship.
6. We are afraid of social interaction.
7. We don’t watch sports.
8. We drink wine coolers.
9. We all have bad haircuts that cause our hair to stick up strangely.

I thought about the list above and decided to share with you how normal we
actually can be. Here is how I fit in the list:

1. I don’t wear glasses and I have never actually seen a pocket protector
   up close

2. I never watch Star Trek.
3. I drive a Ford Pickup and a motorcycle.
4. I am married (and not to my computer).
5. I have had many relationships.
6. I love hanging out with friends.
7. I like watching football, hockey, and NASCAR.
8. I drink beer.
9. I shave my head and have tattoos.

Often enough we label people without getting to know them. So for all you
people out there who think they know a nerd when they see one, be careful.
