Welcome to Just Ask Matt! Today, Rob writes:
Matt, after your suggestion a while back about giving Xandros a try, I finally took a shot at it. I like it, but I am getting really upset since I cannot seem to get DVDs to play within Xine. Is there something I am doing wrong? I have the latest paid version; why do I keep getting the error when I first go to start the DVD? Please help.
Wow, a Linux question! More important, one I can actually answer! (Grin) Anyway, yes, this is something that I have spoken to Xandros about in the past and feel that it needs to be offered as a critical update for that application. Until it does, try the following. On the off chance you run into the same issue that I, and a number of others, ran into with Xandros version 3.0, I want you to open up a shell/console.
Now type the following exactly as it appears here:
/usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples/install-css.sh
Just keep in mind that you must be connected to the Internet for this to work. Otherwise, this should totally get you on the right track assuming your drive is being properly detected. Good luck!
Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the comments may be, drop me a line, and you too can “Just Ask Matt!”
