Do I Ever Need The Screen Savers!

Welcome to Just Ask Matt! Today, Jerry writes:

AVG with XP SP2 - AVG 7 Free works great with XP SP2. Since AVG will stop supporting AVG 6 on Dec 31, 2004, Jennifer should uninstall AVG6 and install AVG7.

I have one for you, though. I have a client that lost her “Screen Saver” tab in XP after the SP2 install. Any thoughts? No help from Microsoft…

Oh man, I’ve been there. One thing that might help is to edit the registry with the following (remember, I am not responsible if the registry goes south on you)

I found the following solution after much digging around. Read through the following:

Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Edit/create the value “NoDispScrSavPage” (DWORD Value)
and set the value to “1″ (without quotes) to hide the Screen Saver
tab, or “0″ to re-enable the Screen Saver tab. If this was the cause in the first place, this might be the fix you need.

Check to see if this exists in your registry. If not, create it and set the DWORD value to 0.

With any luck, this will take care of it for you. If any of you folks out there have some thoughts, I am all ears. Not something that I have dealt with in a long time, so I am not sure if there is another option that I might have missed. Feel free to shoot over any tactful suggestions that you might have. For now though, Jerry, I hope this resolves the issue for ya.

Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the
comments may be, drop me a line, and you too can “Just Ask Matt!”

What Do You Think?
