Wanna Be A Content Provider, Too?

Welcome to Just Ask Matt! - The IT industry’s answer to the help column, only slightly more medicated. Today, Keith writes:

Matt, I am wanting to start an online newsletter. I know what content I want to share. Just need help finding a content management system that will work with me and not against me.

Wow, that is a Chris question if I ever saw one. Still, I will do my best to help you out. First, your content management system should be easy to use. If you are comfortable with the Web Dev side of things, you might consider Movable Type or ExpressionEngine. If you are looking for something that is just ‘plug and play,’ then consider Blogger, lockergnome.net or Typepad. These solutions will help you with all of your content management needs without the fuss. With the Weblog angle, it just helps to enhance the Google rankings as well as create a readable environment for your written content.

As for the actual mailing software for the newsletter, you have two options that I think work well. If you are looking for free and don’t mind the ‘unpolished look,’ try Yahoo! groups. If that is just too cheesy looking for you, I had a great time using Sonicmailer myself. Had all of the options and made list management a breeze. Hope this helps!

Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the
comments may be, drop me a line, and you too can “Just Ask Matt!”
