AOLeav-iate My Pain!

Welcome to Just Ask Matt! - The IT industry’s answer to the help column, only slightly more medicated. Today, Ron writes:

Matt, I am trying to get away from AOL. I am sick of them but I am afraid that I will lose my AOL address book. How can I get the information off of AOL without paying someone to help me? I am not really too new to the PC, so I am willing to work for this if I have to. Please help me!

Well Ron, if you are up to getting pretty geeky here, you can give this utility a shot. It is called AOLeave and I have heard reports of it being used with some degree of success. You will need to have some basic understanding of DOS commands and be fairly comfortable with following some pretty detailed instructions. Most of my clients on AOL are pretty diehard, so my experience with tools like this are limited. Read through this page completely and if you are feeling up to it, then I say go for it. AOLeave may be just the tool that you are looking for.

Do you have an IT-related question? Perhaps you are just burnt out on writing on the walls with crayons? Whatever the comments may be, drop me a line and you, too, can “Just Ask Matt!”

What Do You Think?
