If you’re responsible for a server, you should be subscribed to this list. “The Secunia Security Advisories list is a high volume list with an average of 10 messages a day. The list covers all the latest security vulnerabilities and security updates.” Secunia watches many software vendors - both proprietary and open source - for reports of security vulnerabilities as well as having their own team of researchers. They also have a virus alert mailing list that’s available here.
