Welcome to Just Ask Matt! - The IT industry’s answer to the help column, only slightly more medicated. Today, Randy writes:
I have a really strange question, Matt. I have been having some problems with a client’s BIOS on his motherboard. I know for a fact that the BIOS is the issue. I would explain the whole thing here but that would take forever and your time is valuable, I am sure. I have read in a few different places that you can reset the BIOS, but I can’t figure out how, exactly. Do I just remove the chip from the board? Help!
Actually, Randy, there are a couple of steps that need to be followed when resetting a BIOS chip. Follow the instructions as laid out on the page that I have linked here for you. Once there, scroll down to the portion about resetting the BIOS. Follow their instructions to the letter. Be careful though, any time you start messing with something as critical as the BIOS, you can mess things up pretty easily if you are not paying attention. The tutorial should get you well on your way to making sure that the BIOS will be reset correctly. Good luck!
