When Your IE Cache Is Corrupt

I believe with total confidence that everyone here knows how to delete their temporary Internet files from Internet Explorer. Pretty basic stuff, right? Well what would you do if you had to contend with a PC that had a corrupt cache for IE? No worries! Today I am going to show you exactly what you need to do in order to jump over this hurdle.
How To Totally Eradicate Any Trace Of The Old Temporary Internet Files (2k/XP)
- Boot the computer. Once at “Welcome Screen,” log in to the administrator account. If you do not see it, don’t panic. Just do a Ctrl-Alt-Del two times and you should see a box where you can type in the needed login info.
- Log in to the administrator account and then browse over to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files (this represents the user name for the person that has the corrupt IE cache). From here you will need to delete the folder, not just what it has inside. This assures us that the index.dat file is erased as well.
This is not something that you’ll run into on an every day basis, however, it will undoubtedly come up with a client at some point. Knowing what to do can be an empowering feeling. Not only will you feel confident about taking on a situation like this, but your clients will be relieved to know that they will not have to resort to drastic measures to get IE back in order.
