Customize Your iPhone with Pimp Your Screen
One of my favorite things about my Android phone was the ability to customize the heck out of it. Rooting my Android phone provided even more options, but opened up a can of worms with problems that eventually forced me to switch to an iPhone. When I “had” to switch from the Android platform to iOS, I refused to jailbreak my iPhone after my experience rooting my Android — which of course prevents similar levels of customizations. However, there are some greats apps that allow iPhone users to customize certain aspects of their phone without compromising security. My current favorite app to customize the iPhone is Pimp Your Screen.
Pimp Your Screen from Apalon is an app for the iPhone that offers backgrounds that feature “app shelves,” so it looks like your apps are stored on bookshelves on the home screen. The app also features a wide array of normal home screens, including an entire set devoted to “neon combos” for an especially vibrant home screen background, as well is “icon skins” that feature backgrounds with designs around or cutouts for the icons on your iPhone’s home screen. For those of you who really want to “pimp” out your iPhone, you can even make your own lock screen that features a background of your choice — including the option to choose one from your photo album — but also the ability to add a frame or widget, such as a calendar, and color or gradient bars to the top and bottom of the lock screen.
Pimp Your Screen is only $0.99 and available in the Apple iTunes app store. Pimp Your Screen is a great buy and offers several levels of customization with great backgrounds, especially considering the app does not require phones to be jailbroken. One word of caution: once you download the app, you may want to browse the backgrounds over Wi-Fi, as they can take some time to load.
Pimp Your Screen is also available for the iPad, iPad 2, and all iPad touch versions. Download Pimp Your Screen from the iTunes App Store and let us know what you think of the app in the comments!
