Open Office doesn't have all of the functionality of MS Office, but it does have the core functionality. Missing are things like "track changes", document sharing, and the little pop-up notes you can type in word docs. Mainly collaborative features, which 90% of people out there don't use or need.

Given the large amount of (nearly identical) functionality that it does have, I'd say OpenOffice's price tag of "free" is very competitive. The truth is, most people don't need MS Office, they just don't know that there are alternatives out there. Good job spreading the word!

How about Picasa, or Flickr, uploads straight from the camera app or from the photos app.

Also a version of Google Docs would be great.

my drooling coworker is already trying to figure out a way to ditch his first gen phone for this one, so I believe they have a point here.

I admire Jobs' marketing.
There doesn't seem to be anything new of value yet people will no doubt be lining up to hand over their money.

Perhaps sales are proportional to the number of blinking lights on the unit.... I obviously don't know. I'm still pretty happy with my Treo.

I switched from Gmail to GMX mainly for moral and political reason, because I do not like Google policy concerning China, nor they're attempt to become a global big brother. Clearly, moving to Yahoo, MSN or AOL (a company participated by Google) was not even an option. Among the other, less multinational providers, GMX seemed to be the one offering the best deal. I did not even expect it to be better than Gmail, in fact it is not, but I am ready to compromise about quality because of the political factor. I use it mainly with IMAP from Thunderbird and I msut say it works quite well. However, I'm also upset by the fact that it is not compatible with Opera. Another serious defect is that there is a limit on the number of email addresses to which you can send a single email if you use their SMTP service.

On another aspect: I once read an ad for something like a "Fifth-third Bank". I found the ad to be humorous and Googled it.
Indeed, there was such a facility.

Within a week, I received emails advising me of changes in my account!

If a bank can be the subject of such rabid phishing, how can they tell their customers that they are "safe"?

Obviously, their system was under the control of professional hackers who could discover the xxx.xx.xx.xx of a simple browser "hit", find out the name and address (email) of the browser and send them a mailing.

The bank told me they had not sent me the e-mail, and that their site was not hacked. I found that both amusing and tragic.

The fact that any institution can claim they are "clean" and are either ignorant or unconcerned about such reports suggests to me that I would not want to entrust my finances with them; not unless they publicly admit to being compromised and then offer some proof that they had secured their facility. Perhaps this finally happened with the institution I mentioned, but I was still receiving emails from "them" until around three months ago.

Not a strong endorsement for online banking to me.

I have instructed my bank - repeatedly - that my account is to be "Read-Only". I can look up my balance, see if certain activities actually took place, and check other activities. I cannot do any other activity. There is no way I (or anyone else) can transfer funds, charge the account, or even open a "new" activity.

While the bank has been slow to accept this idea, it has proven safer than "regular" online banking with total I/O support. That is not to say the bank was not accepting of this arrangement; they just wanted all their customers to feel safe with "full-service" - - - which I am not.

This is what I suggest all my friends and family do; unfortunately, they do not agree with me, and I do hear, now and again, of problems associated with their arrangements, but they're still happy with the risks. I'm not.

Technology will take over I am sure. Of course there will be reduce of jobs, but new ones will open. If there is less manual work and more technical work then most the population will work on technology. This will make technology grow even quick then ever. There will be 3 main jobs in the future, teachers, engineers, and programmers. Everything around us will grow quicker and quicker.

Over the years, I developed pulpuslaceratapohobia - and the only known cure for that is Audible.
VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
