Sick Of Simple Questions - Be Cocky With Google

Don’t you love when you’re looking around an answer site like Yahoo! Answers or a support forum and somebody asks a simple question with an answer they could find in seconds by searching Google? I’m sure you know, there’s so many people out there that do it. And I’m not talking about questions of any difficulty at all - I’m talking about questions of simplicity that even a child could find the answer to from the first result page of a Google Search.

I was watching Click, a BBC programme in the United Kingdom, and they featured this cool little site that I thought I’d share with you. The website is called “Let Me Google That For You” or “LMGTFY” for short. All you need to do is go to the site and type the topic of a question into the search box. Then select either Google Search or I’m Feeling Lucky and a little video animation will be made. This shows you typing the phrase into a Google search and will show them the results page after.

For instance, let’s say someone came into the Lockergnome forum and asked where could they find information on Chris Pirillo. You’d go to www.letmegooglethatforyou.com or www.lmgtfy.com and type “Chris Pirillo” into the search box. Then you’d click Google Search. This is the animation you’d be presented with: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Chris+Pirillo. You can, however, opt to have it as a TinyURL, but since Lockergnome bans use of shortening URLs with services such this, I will not post the TinyURL for this here.

It’s just a little way to be cocky, and educate people on how simple it really is to find the answer to something simple yourself instead of relying on others. And the site even automatically transforms the link into the TinyURL for you so there’s no massive links.

Try it yourself, wind up some of your friends or just be a bit cheeky online - www.letmegooglethatforyou.com or www.lmgtfy.com.

That is a great link find - I’ve had so many people do that on some of my non computer related sites - it’s actually kind of sad. Years ago for man questions I’d be answering and saying, you know I found the answer in an almanac/encyclopedia/etc. - great website idea though…

I have to say…I don’t remember last time a blog that actually made me laugh. Thanks to this blog, my day just got a lot better. Just going to start linking people to this blog now…some people frustrate me to an extend with those simple questions ><

Thanks again
