Teen Collapses After WoW 24-Hour Battle

A 15-year-old male has collapsed after playing World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King for in excess of 24 hours. The teen is said to have brought friends round to his house in the west of Sweden to play Wrath of the Lich King, a new edition to the World of Warcraft family.
It is thought that the boy collapsed after he supposedly suffered an epileptic fit. The father of the 15-year-old told the Kvällsposten, a Swedish tabloid, that the group of teens had played throughout the day and night, that they perhaps had a couple of hours of sleep, and that they ate irregularly in the time that they were playing. Doctors have said that the teen had been concentrating for too long without proper food or drink, and therefore the boy collapsed.
I myself, think that there a number of people in the blame for this. The first is, of course, is the boy which actually have any sense and so sat, without eating, drinking, sleeping, resting or leaving his computer chair, and played on a virtual game for over one whole day. The boy, surely, must have understood that this could not have been doing any good for his health, and so it is partly his own fault for not using common sense.
There are, in his defense, other people which are to blame. By his friends coming over to his house, and playing along with him, they are only encouraging him to continue to play the game. Although its not exactly peer pressure, his decision was probably influenced by his peers. And of course, the parents are also to blame for letting this 15-year-old child sit and play a single game without doing anything else for 24 hours.
It is extremely worrying that some people are becoming so addicted to this game. I suppose, it is good for somebody to withdrawl from the real world for some time, and just concentrate on a game where they can do well in. However, for somebody to have nothing else to do with an entire game but focus on an imaginary world, I feel quite sorry.

I play wow, I have played since launch and still have the ability to walk away. The thing is, self control. Its not blizzards fault for putting out a game that is good and addicting but the person that plays it can not control what they do. IMO People need to stop blaming the company and start pointing the finger at them selfs.

No such thing as bad publicity. Teens have a notorious lack of self control and hardly any notion of consequences.
Perhaps GMs should be on the lookout for people who’ve been playing for more than 20 hours. In fact, it’d be a pretty simple script.
“Congratulations! has been defeated! You are victorious! Rest now weary warrior, for there may be battles to come…”
That would at least give some kind of ending to the game, allowing players to justify logging out to themselves.
