eBay Says No To Ivory Sales

eBay has said that they are going to enforce a worldwide ban on sales of ivory on the site starting next year. Sales of ivory will be totally banned, in a plan to help stop the brutal killing of African and Asian elephants for their tusks.

A society has revealed that eBay has had over 4,000 items of ivory listed, and on one occasion, a member paid around $21,000 for two elephant tusks. However, eBay has insisted that they will still allow the sale of products which may be antique and contain a miniscule amount of ivory.

Teresa Telecky, of the Humane Society Internation, has praised eBay for their ban of ivory sales, and say that it may set an example of others. Poachers, unfortunately, continue to murder the endangered spicies, simply for their tusks.

I think that eBay have done a great thing completely banning sales of ivory in its pure and recent form. It really does show how much the internet and technology can help prevent animal cruelty, and gives people that opportunity to compain and complain about anything they want - not just endangered animals. The internet now plays a huge role in keeping campaigners connected and hopefully, elephants and other species will benefit from this decision.
