World’s Oldest Blogger Dies Aged 108 - Anyone can use the internet!

The world’s oldest blogger, Olive Riley, has unfortunately died aged an amazing 108. Her death was mourned by many of her friends and readers, all of which online. Olive had been blogging since February 2007 and has written over 70 blog posts regarding her life and the olden days. I would like to write about this as sheer proof that anybody of any age can use technology, and that you’re never to old to start.

Many people of many ages are technophobes. They see a piece of machinery, and I’ve said this before, they are worried they will break it or their generally just “afraid” of it. But the truth is, the computer can not really be broken unless dropped from a 50 floor building, and technology can improve your life a hell of a lot. Instead of having to buy your newspaper everyday at $1, read it on their website for free. Instead of having to go out shopping to your local Wal-Mart, get your order online and have it delivered to your door. Instead of sending long letters back and forth across the country to your friends and relatives at a price, send them a free e-mail, which will get there straight away with printable pictures, or send them an IM and see and hear each other for nothing.

There are so many opportunities for older people to use the internet. In the situation of Olive she is one of the world’s oldest people, and she is using the latest of technology. Also, there is more and more equipment and software which is being established to help disabled people do use technology. In today’s modern world there is no reason why anybody should not have a computer and be using it in their home, no matter their age or anything else.

Let me know what you think about Olive? Have you read her blogs? What did you think of it? Do you think that elderly people are just as able to use a computer as a younger person? Are you elderly and do you use a computer or do you know somebody who is disabled but still manages to overcome it? Let me know…leave a comment.

I wonder who is going to take Olive’s place? I would like to nominate my grandmother… she is 99 years old and basking in Youtube glory after making a strong pitch for Barack Obama:
