Well, Microsoft’s operating system Windows Vista has been released for almost a year now, and after using it for quite a substanical amount of time I am happy to report what I think of it. I have compiled this list of 10 upsides of Vista and 10 downsides.
Pros
1. It has a great looking interface
2. Easy way of naviation around the desktop and taskbar
3. Is growing in compatibility with many software and hardware.
4. There isn’t a 4th reason for pros.
4. Nor is there a 5th
Cons
1. Pathetic driver support
2. System crashes alot
3. Loading times are slow, especially when starting up the computer
4. Search features are very low in standards
5. Alot of versions make it confusing
So there you go, it’s easy to see there is more cons for Vista at the moment then there is is pros. Do you have Windows Vista? Does it cause many problems? Are there easy to resolve? What are your Vista pros and cons? Are you considering buying Vista? Are you confused at the different versions? If so, leave a comment.

I agree 100%
The thing is I would love to have Windows Vista running on my machine but its just impossible for me due to bad support and slow load times. I guess the sticker on my laptop that reads “Vista compatible” really means”Yes you can install Vista, after that who the hell knows”

First off, let me say that I am in no way pro-microsoft, but I have found Vista to be good for the most part. Yes there are tweaks that may need to be made, but all in all if you have a decently new system it should run everything just fine. (As long as you give some apps elevated rights, but thats another story or post.) The biggest complaint from me would be the video drivers, mostly if you have intel integrated video. On my work laptop (Dell D630 with intel integrated video) and my home laptop (1yr old Gateway), both of which have intel integrated video, I have found there to be minor glitches (also another topic) but nothing that makes me want to go back to XP, which brings me to why I won’t go back to XP. It just looks good, its pretty. Yes I said it, pretty. I mean the indexed searching is great and a lot of XP’s feature were finally mastered, but in this day and age of GUI’s, vista for the most part looks nice. I know ubuntu beryl and the new compiz fusion far surpasses the aero interface, but a lot of things almost require you to use the windows platform. Again I am not for this, but as far as the business world goes you are usually required to use Outlook or Lotus Notes for your email environments. There are ways around it, yes I know, but for full functionality you are better off just conforming and if it has to be windows you might as well make it pretty experience by using Vista.

I don’t quit get it. I use both mac os x leopard and vista and on my systems I find them about equally stable. I have not rebooted my vista machine in a couple of weeks, yes os x needs to be rebooted at least weekly. As far as drivers go, I can remember back to mac os x.1 when it first came out and software compatibility was a major issue. I had to wait nearly 6 months to a year befor all of my software ran well on it. Until that time I had to dual boot into the older mac os system 9. So the moral is, with any new operating system one needs to have some patience.

I agree with your list. But we need to keep in mind that people’s experiences differ even if they are similar in many ways. I can say that I don’t like vista much. It works like an overly run car. Always huffing and puffing at every corner.

I HATE MS VISTA! VISTA IS GARBAGE!
i an a designer and none of the software (SoildWorks 08, Labview etc.) i use to earn a living runs on vista. i bought a new dell laptop and i just got it 2 days ago. they refused to sell XP on it. so as soon as i got it i wipped the HDD and installed XP. they should have perfected XP before they decided make a new OS. vista does nothing that XP don’t already do. people that like vista are all excite about the eye candy. if you want that then install vista insprat on XP. Vista gets a Z- grade in my book and if they don’t wize up linux will replace them period!

At the end of April 2008, the computer I had for about 6 yrs. took a dump. I was forced to buy another computer. I bought a computer with Vista. I can say that there are some areas in the Vista I like and there are some other areas that I do not like in Vista. I do miss running XP Professional; but with Vista, as long as you have a large amount of RAM, Vista will run great.
- Sidebar Gadget is neat, but I can do without.
- Making sure a file is fully uninstalled from the computer is a pain in the neck.
- Trying to split the Windows to other users, unless you are an expert, to comfusing to do.
- As for the “security” of Vista, I do like it.
- Putting new software or downloads from the Internet is a pain in the neck. Not all software will work on Vista.
So, I have my “ups” and “downs” with WINDOW Vista. Other wise since I have it, I have not had too much of a problem.
