Nintendo Wii Review

Christmas has just went buy, and hundreds of thousands of children and adults alike would have rushed downstairs to dive under the tree and unwrap what they hoped was a Nintendo Wii. Many were disappointed after the Wii was more popular than expected buy Nintendo, and there was a sudden limited amount of stock on Nintendo Wii’s, but if they were not limited, they were out of stock.

However there were some people around the world who managed to get their hands on a Nintendo Wii, one of them being myself. In this post, I am going to express my likes and dislikes about the Wii, and as time progresses, and I play more games and go deeper into the features of the Wii, followup posts are sure to come.

The Nintendo Wii console, looks very attractive. I like how they have gone with the colour white for the Wii, as it really stands out, and the Wii logo, normally being blue, also attracts me to want to look at it. The only problem with looks for the Wii, is the controller. The controllers are, let’s face it, ugly. I mean one of them is a is shaped God knows how with many badly organised buttons to look at, but do they benifit when playing games for easy reach of the required buttons.

The Nunchuck controller looks just weird with it’s design, however I love 99% of the features of the Wii remotes. The initial idea of wireless controllers with an Infrared sensor is brilliant, and the way that the Nunchuck works with the original remote to broadcast it’s signal to the sensor bar is also a wonderful idea.

I adore the built in speakers on the original Wii remote, and the easy hold grip for both controllers, as well as the safety of the rubber Wii jacket. The wriststrap is also another well thought about safety utility.

About the console its self, I like the way that there isn’t a slide out tray, and it is just plain and simply push the disc into the slot, and it will take it from you. The loading times of both games and the console are great, but the controls are fidly to get used to at first. I, however, picked up on the controls in just over 1 hour and thirty minutes. For Gamecube users, let’s be honest that console wasn’t really a success, you can also play Gamecube games on the Wii with the built in utility on the top of the console, protected by covers.

The stand is awful however, and at times it is a right pain to get that stupid disc on the bottom, but in the end it decided to stop troubling me. Wii Sports is a great game, although I do not like the way you don’t need to me across the room to actually control where you go on screen, but obviosuly this is because of space restrictions.

The plug and the box is a little bit chunky, but its not at all heavy. Overall I think that the Nintendo Wii is a marvelous invention, and it looks like Nintendo is taking gaming to a whole new level. First screen control with the Nintendo DS, and then this with the Wii.

One of my main downsides though is is it truly possible to play a full game like Halo or Tomb Raider on the Wii, instead of just mini games, because you can’t move around and would only be sticking your hand up in the air to climb. It might take off though.

A+ gaming console! What do you think of the Nintendo Wii. Are you hoping to get one or are you currently bored with it.
