The time is quickly nearing when the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland begin the switchover to digital which, incase you don’t know, is when digital is the thing that will take over analogue, slowly but surely making it unavaiable.

It is important when buying a new televison or VHS/DVD recording equipment you look for the digital tick logo to make sure that it is compatiable with digital.

In the 2nd half of 2008 it will be time for the Border Region between England and Scotland to switch to digital, the first of all of the places in the UK and Northern Ireland.

However, in the 1st half of 2009 the West Country, which is the South West of the country will switchover to digital. In the 2nd half of 2009 it will bring the switchover of Granada, which is the region just above Wales, and Wales to switch over.

In the 1st half of 2010 the West region will switch, and then in the 2nd half STV Central, just above the Border Region will switch. This is followed, by in the 1st half of 2011 Yorkshire, Central and Anglia making the switch. London and Meridian switch in the 1st half of 2012, and Tyne Tees, in the North East of England, and Ulster, the whole of Northern Ireland, will switch in the 2nd half of 2012.

I however live in the Tyne Tees region, meaning that I will be getting it second last. The Channel Islands will switch in 2013.

If you live in the UK what do you think about the switch to digital and do you think it is a good thing? Where are you in the country and are you happy with the waiting
time for the switchover for your region? If you live elsewhere in the world do you think that all this switchover is causing confusion. Leave a comment!
