WeatherBug For Linux Is Back!
Today I am thrilled to announced that WeatherBug for Linux is back for Ubuntu users. The previous Deb package had some flaws that caused it to stop working right a few Ubuntu releases ago.
Luckily for us, one of the weather fans in the community took it upon himself to fix the problem and send me the repaired package. I am hoping to give him full credit here after I receive a confirmation that he is okay with me doing so. (Updated) Karl Zeigler is the man behind these changes made, so I for one would like to give him a huge thank you for his efforts.
About the app
WeatherBug for Linux is better than anything else out there for Weather on this platform for the following reasons.
- It looks good. Not just some pointless applet giving you weather from a far off airport. This is WeatherBug’s own weather station network which means in many cases, neighborhood based live weather. Close, accurate and timely.
- WeatherBug for Linux is interchangeable. Take each “bugglet” and move them around, remove them from the app itself to and leave it on your desktop. The link to this older article has the video which will give you a full demo of what this can do.
- Customizable. Font color, applet color, data updates, proxy support, WeatherBug Linux has it all.
- Runs well on just about anything. I am running it well on a ASUS Eee. That’s a netbook folks, not a full sized desktop. No intensive resources needed here.
What weather features does it have?
- Current Temp
- Wind Speed
- Radar image/w enlargement option
- Today’s forecast/w ability to expand into a three day forecast
- Air quality report
- Rain fall report/w extra detail available
Where do you get it?
Just download it here for Ubuntu from the direct link. If you find it’s not running for some reason, chances are good you are looking at one of the following.
-Old version of Java
-Older release of Ubuntu
I have it running like a rock star on Ubuntu 10.04 and openjdk-6-jre. Good luck and enjoy fast, accurate weather from WeatherBug on Linux.
